We’re excited to help you plan your unforgettable stay at GweGwe Beach Lodge. Whether you have questions about accommodation, activities, or personalised requests, our team is here to assist and ensure your experience is seamless.
GweGwe’s menus are inspired by the cultures & produce of the region as well as the no-fishing and no-foraging rules that govern Reserve and the marine protected area offshore. We strive to ensure that we serve fresh, locally produced and farmed products. Home style hearty meals are cooked with love and passion rather than by “fine dining” precision. As the lodge operates exclusively on solar electricity which restricts the number of modern, energy guzzling appliances. For this reason, we have homely set menus that are down-to- earth that we hope you will find to your liking. We offer three set meals. Early risers can grab a pre-breakfast coffee, rusk and muesli before setting off on their lagoon swim or morning’s activity. Please remember that we are a full day and a half round trip away from any reasonably sizedd or provisioned shop and therefore any dietary constraints, allergies or preferences must please be communicated well in advance so the lodge can plan accordingly. Our menus are planned around availability of local ingredients. The menus are a set menu with a choice of two options. The dinner menu will be displayed in the main area from lunch time onwards. If there is something on the menu that you are not comfortable with, please advise our staff as early as possible so that they can prepare an alternative dish for you. Please note that we can accommodate most dietary requests, provided they are communicated to us well in advance. For Halaal guests we can offer vegetarian food and possibly Halaal meat if available from our suppliers, however we do not operate a fully Halaal kitchen. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate Kosher dietary requirements.
Wifi is available and is generally reliable but it is via satellite it is slow and can be affected by weatehr conditions and by guests excessive streaming.
There is cell phone reception on higher ground behind the lodge.
Most of the activities at GweGwe are focused on outdoor physical activities. There are steps leading up to the main lodge. We do have one guest room with mobility rails. Hence, we are not ideally suited for guests with mobility issues unless they are happy to relax in the main area and enjoy the views with a good book.
As Mkambati is a gazetted provincial nature reserve, no pets are allowed into the reserve. So unfortunately, we are unable to accept a visit from your furry friends.
We do have off road bicycles and kayaks available at the lodge. However if you are wanting to bring your own bike or eBike, the cycling within the Reserve is phenomenal.
We welcome children of all ages; however, it should be noted that parents are responsible for their child’s well-being and safety at all times. Please note that we do have drop off areas and open swimming pools at the lodge. Our preference wherever possible is to keep the family suites available for guests travelling with children 18 years and younger, so that the parents and children do not need to split up in standard rooms. Should there be a specific request to accommodate only adults in a family room or it is the only accommodation available please check with our Reservations team.
As the norm, children aged between 0 and 18 must share a room with an adult in one of the two family rooms available at the lodge. GweGwe has two family rooms approximately 110m2 in . Triples are possible on request with a maximum of 5 guests in the family room and two adults and one young child in a double suite. The additional child will be accommodated on either a fold out mattress or additional bed. Please note that this may impact the space and comfort of the room.
If family or triple accommodation is not available, families travelling with children under 18 will be roomed as 1 adult and 1 child per room. In the instances of triples, please note that the setup may have an impact on comfort and space
Children’s menus are available. Please inform reservations of any dietary requirements or requests your child may have prior to travel – and confirm upon arrival with the camp management.
Please note that if you are needing a nanny service, please advise this in advance so we can plan accordingly. This does come at an additional charge, payable on check out.
Management and/or guides have the final say regarding whether a child may join a certain activity.
Minimum age on the boat transfer is 8 years.
Please let us know if you are celebrating a special occasion. It is difficult for us to specify in advance exactly what the lodge will arrange as our options depend on the weather and tides. For this reason, we leave it up to the lodge management team to determine how to best spoil our guests taking the weather, tides and guests into consideration. Some suggestions on what the lodge could arrange are as follows:
Celebratory birthday cake and Lubanzi Sparkling wine
Romantic hot tub set up
Romantic picnic set up at the waterfall (not completely private)
Romantic private dinner (depending on weather and occupancy)
Our team will do everything possible to make your stay memorable.
