There are storage options available in both Durban and Margate, please enquire with reservations.

Margate:

Flights depart Margate at 12:30 and return from GweGwe at 13:30 landing at Virginia at 14:30. Times are approximate and will be confirmed prior to travel.

Durban Virginia:

Flights depart Virginia at 13:30 and return from GweGwe at 15:00 landing at Virginia at 16:00. Times are approximate and will be confirmed prior to travel.

There is a daily flight from Johanessburg into Margate that our flights are scheduled around.

If landing in Durban, it is easiest (and most cost effective) to book an Uber from Durban King Shaka Airport to Margate Airport.

Alternatively, we can arrange a transfer on your behalf. Please enquire with reservations.

Absolutely. We offer private air charters from major hubs including Johannesburg, Durban, East London, and Port Elizabeth. Our 1050m private airfield accommodates aircraft such as the Pilatus PC12, KingAir, and Cessna Caravan. Private helicopter charters are also available from Durban, Margate, or East London.

Yes, we offer a chauffeur drive option for guests landing at Durban’s King Shaka Airport or Margate Airport who prefer to be driven directly to the lodge.

All transport options are subject to availability at the time of booking. We recommend arranging your preferred travel method as early as possible through our reservations team.

Margate to GweGwe: +-3.5 hours Durban to GweGwe: +-5.5 hours A 4x4 is not a requirement however a vehicle with high clearance is highly recommended. Download driving directions. Car hire is available at both Margate and Durban airports.

• A Note on Travel to GweGwe: GweGwe’s remote coastal location means that reaching the lodge can occasionally be affected by the weather. We ask guests to travel with a spirit of adventure and flexibility, it’s all part of experiencing this remarkable and untouched part of South Africa.
• Outsourced Services:
  • All transfers are operated by independent service providers and must be booked and confirmed in advance, subject to availability.
• Safety First:
  • Safety is our highest priority. If the service provider deems a transfer unsafe (e.g., due to weather or other operational concerns), a road transfer and/or overnight stay may be required as a backup.
  • Please note: Any additional costs for backup arrangements (such as accommodation or alternate transport) will be for the guest’s account. The backup road transfer is not a lower-cost alternative, and therefore refunds will not be issued.
• Seat-in-Plane:
  • Our seat-in-aircraft charter operates as a non-scheduled service. Arrival and departure times are indicative only and may vary daily depending on routing and lodge logistics. Final schedules will be planned, confirmed, and communicated to the Lodge, Agent, or guest making the reservation.
  • Whilst bookings are quoted and confirmed on a specific aircraft, should that aircraft become unavailable due to maintenance or other unforeseen circumstances, an alternative aircraft will be provided.
  • GweGwe Beach Lodge and our suppliers are not liable for delays or missed onward connections due to weather or aviation restrictions. Guests are strongly advised to take out comprehensive travel insurance.
  • GweGwe Beach Lodge will assist as far as possible to find alternate land transfers or accommodation should a flight be cancelled due to weather or other restrictions. The cost of these arrangements will be for the guests account.
• Private Boat Charter:
  • Our private boat transfer operates as a specialised and weather-dependent service, suitable for adventurous travellers seeking a unique arrival or departure experience.
  • Surf Launch: The transfer involves a through-the-surf beach launch and landing, which are dependent on sea and weather conditions.
  • Safety: Should the skipper or service provider deem conditions unsafe for departure or arrival, the transfer may be postponed, rescheduled, or replaced with a road transfer option. For safety reasons, passengers must be no younger than 6 years old and no older than 75 years old.
  • Alternative Arrangements: GweGwe Beach Lodge will assist with alternate transfer or accommodation options in the event of a cancellation due to weather or sea conditions. Any additional costs incurred will be for the guest’s account. The backup road transfer is not a lower-cost alternative, and therefore refunds will not be issued.
  • Departure Times: Suggested departure times are 11:00am, particularly in the summer months.
  • GweGwe Beach Lodge and its partners are not responsible for delays, cancellations, or missed onward travel connections resulting from marine or weather conditions.
• General Conditions:
  • Responsibility: GweGwe Beach Lodge acts only as an agent for outsourced transfer providers and accepts no liability for loss, damage, injury, delay, or inconvenience caused by third-party operators or circumstances beyond its control.
  • Force Majeure: GweGwe Beach Lodge cannot be held responsible or liable for cancellations, delays, or changes resulting from natural disasters, weather conditions, strikes, war, civil disturbances, or other events beyond reasonable control.
  • Insurance: Guests are strongly advised to take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance, including cover for trip interruption, cancellation, lost luggage, and emergency evacuation.
  • Rates: All rates are quoted in South African Rand (ZAR), include VAT, and are subject to change without prior notice.
  • Bookings: All transfer bookings must be confirmed in writing via GweGwe Reservations prior to travel.
  • Indemnity: Participation in any transfer implies acceptance of the terms above and the operator’s specific indemnity and liability waivers.
