Mkambati is a birdwatcher’s paradise, featuring over 200 bird species. Expect to see a range of species from brightly coloured sunbirds to larger birds like the African fish eagle and the southernmost range of the ground hornbill. The diverse habitats in the reserve include forests, marshlands and river systems, which are crucial for both wildlife and plant diversity, and attract a host of birds and wetland species. The cliffs on the Msikaba River hold one of the largest remaining colonies of Cape Vulture in the Eastern Cape – also one of the few protected breeding sites in the world.
